When the owners of this Golden Beach property bought the site decades ago, a very different house with a unique feature stood in its place.

Katrina Carmichael, whose parents owned the property, said the popular beach suburb was, back then, just “a tiny seaside town dotted with little cottages along the waterfront”.

“Mum and Dad removed the original house and found a World War Two air raid shelter underneath the home,” she said.

What stands in its place is the third house built by the family on that same block.

“When they decided to move here permanently, they wanted to make sure they’d never have to leave, so they even installed an internal lift,” Ms Carmichael said.

“The current house is the third my parents have had on the block.”

A lot of the family’s memories are tied up in the 23 Landsborough Parade location, with Ms Carmichael reminiscing about visiting her grandparents in the area in one of the first ever homes built at Diamond Head.

“Back then my grandparents house was one of the only houses at Diamond Head,” she said.

“The trawlers used to come in with prawns, the water was absolutely full of fish and there was a circus that used to come at Christmas between Bulcock Beach and Happy Valley.

“To this day the best thing about the spot is just watching the lights come on at night over Caloundra city and the ships going by along the passage.”
