Renovating on television may seem like a buzz, but it’s far from reality.

It’s also something the seller of this Gold Coast home quickly realised.

His house, at 6 Rodlan Pde, Labrador, was partially demolished before he decided to abort his project and pop his house on the market.

“The vendor bought it just over 12 months ago with the idea that he was going to renovate it and realised that TV shows make it look far easier than it actually is,” marketing agent Mark Saveall, of McGrath said.

“He got in too deep and rang me and said ‘mate, this is a nightmare, get me out of here’.”

“He has stripped all the asbestos out and really all that is left is the slab, external walls and original timber flooring.”

The buyers, from Melbourne, paid $590,000 for the property and secured it before it went to auction.

“The couple are going to knock the rest of the walls down and build a two-storey home on the block and live the lifestyle the Gold Coast affords.”

“It did add a level of difficulty to the sale,” Mr Saveall said.

“It was a hard prospect for people to get their head around.”

Despite dropping his major renovation plans, the seller did walk away with a profit.

CoreLogic records reveal the house sold for $117,500 more than what he paid for it in October, 2020.

The median house price in Labrador is $660,000.
